Big time players make big time plays. Well, not in the case of Byron Jones. That is what makes him so great, he does not get targeted. He has a few pass deflections, but he has been a lockdown cornerback when he has been on the field. Him and Howard are forming a lethal duo.
The Dolphins gave Byron Jones a massive contract this off-season, and boy he has lived up to it. A reminder: interceptions do not matter. Xavien Howard gets interceptions because that is his play style. Jones does not play that way. He takes opposing receivers out of the game. There is a reason he has almost no interceptions in his career.
As the Dolphins continue to grow and add more talent, players like Jones will shine even more. Jones is opening things up for other players right now. His lockdown coverage is essentially forcing quarterbacks to throw at Xavien Howard. It is legitimately hard to pass the football against the Miami Dolphins right now, and that is mainly because of Byron Jones.
All in all, the Miami Dolphins are building a great secondary. Head coach Brian Flores and defensive coordinator Josh Boyer are going to keep adding defensive backs. At cornerback, the Dolphins have youth, experience, grit, and playmaking. The Dolphins are building something special on the back end.
