In round two, the Miami Dolphins stay on the offensive side of the ball.

Round 2, Pick 8

Continuing with the trend of helping to rejuvenate the offense, the Dolphins select TE Pat Freiermuth out of Penn State.  Freiermuth (6’5″), like current Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki (6’6″), is another big target that can be used to create mismatches in the secondary and haul in passes in the red zone.  The big difference between Gesicki and Freiermuth is that the latter, nicknamed “Baby Gronk”, is actually an upgrade as an in-line blocker over Gesicki.

It must be mentioned that Freiermuth had season-ending shoulder surgery (per Mark Wogenrich of SI.com) but it’s not thought to be serious or a lingering injury so that won’t dissuade Miami from this selection.

Tua has recently developed a rapport with Gesicki (four touchdowns in the last three games) and has shown just how effective he can be throwing to the tight end.  Flores knows better than most what two good tight ends can do for an offense; considering the success, the Patriots had during his time there.
