Bobby McCain is consistent but the Miami Dolphins may look to improve the safety position.

McCain is a reliable and consistent player and one that we rarely hear about. He does his job well enough to not be noticed. In 2020, he started 15 of 16 games with 46 combined tackles, five passes defended, and one interception.

The Dolphins will likely try to upgrade the safety position. They are hoping that rookie Brandon Jones will pan out and he has played well this past year. Miami could look to the draft to add another safety, perhaps early.

Working against McCain is his contract and there isn’t much if any trade value for him. If the Dolphins keep McCain he will count $7.14 million against the cap. Releasing him will save the $5.6 million of that seven. He would carry a $1.4 million cap hit.

McCain is a good player and many fans wouldn’t want him to be let go but is he worth that price tag? Probably not. He hasn’t been much of liability but he isn’t changing the game either. He is more middle of the road and that is an expensive price for average to slightly above average production.
