The Miami Dolphins could part with two safeties or one of either Eric Rowe or Bobby McCain.

Eric Rowe has been a good safety for the Dolphins. He has made some great plays and typically doesn’t allow receivers to get behind him. Working in his favor is the knowledge of the Brian Flores defense and their relationship with the Patriots.

What isn’t working for him is his contract and the Dolphins presumed desire to get younger and upgrade the position.

Rowe will count $5 million against the Dolphins cap and all but $1 million is recoverable. That puts $4 million spending dollars back in the bank for the Dolphins.

If the Dolphins look to the draft for a potential replacement, I would suspect Rowe would stick around for the 2021 season. He is a veteran, well-liked, can help a rookie learn the position, and of course, Brian Flores can rely on him.

Should Miami turn to the free-agent market in March, Rowe could be the one who heads out the door but I’m not sure the Dolphins can find a replacement in that market at $5 million per year. Rowe is a bargain right now but he is at a position that Miami will hope to upgrade.
