SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA – OCTOBER 11: Matt Breida #22 of the Miami Dolphins carries the ball against the San Francisco 49ers during the first half of their NFL football game at Levi’s Stadium on October 11, 2020 in Santa Clara, California. The Miami Dolphins won’t have to do anything with Matt Breida this off-season.

When the Miami Dolphins take the field in 2021, you can probably put down money that Matt Breida will not be a part of the roster. The Dolphins traded for Breida during the last draft and it has been a big mistake that hasn’t paid off.

For all the speed and quickness that Breida has, the Dolphins couldn’t take advantage of it. Whether it was due to the play calling, line blocking, or Breida himself, he just couldn’t perform consistently.

Breida ran the ball 59 times for 254 yards for a 4.3 yards per carry average. That tells me he should have been used more. In the passing game, however, he was only targeted 10 times all season. His nine receptions for 9.6 yards tells me that he was able to move the ball downfield consistently but again, the Dolphins didn’t use him often enough.

With Breida hitting the free-agent market, it would be shocking if the Dolphins retained him. For one, I don’t see Breida staying in Miami given his usage but at the same time, I don’t see Miami making an offer that will convince him to.
