The Miami Dolphins will spend money to keep Jerome Baker.

Jerome Baker is on the final year of his contract and in 2021 he will make about $1.1 million. All of that money can be added back to the cap if he is released. That isn’t a scenario. that anyone sees playing out.

Baker may have his boneheaded moments or miss a tackle but he has developed well and even if the Dolphins draft a top middle linebacker, there is room for Baker on the roster and honestly, I don’t think the Dolphins want him to test the market next season.

This is a case of buying low. Baker isn’t going to break any banks in free agency and he would almost assuredly be banking on himself if he plays on his final contract and the Dolphins offered him an extension. Baker would be smart to accept any offer that the Dolphins extend and I think the Dolphins would be smart to get a deal done this year rather than wait and take a chance of his stock rising in 2021.
