Ryan Fitzpatrick is a free agent but the Dolphins will probably re-sign him.

Have we heard the last of Ryan Fitzpatrick? Probably not. My gut tells me no and that means there is a chance that Chan Gailey remains with the Dolphins as well.

Fitzpatrick is on the edge of 39 and while he has been around the league for close to two decades, he has never led a team to the playoffs. While he and Tua Tagovailoa have formed a unique “father-like” bond, the question is whether or not Fitzpatrick sees Miami as his best chance to play.

There are no teams in the NFL right now that would view Fitzpatrick in any role other than a back-up at this point in his career. Of the 32 teams, he would need to fit into their offensive system and structure.

To be honest, I’m not sure I want to see Fitzpatrick back. Don’t get me wrong, I love watching the guy play but the Dolphins offense is built for Fitzpatrick and it needs to be built for Tua Tagovailoa. Until that happens, the Dolphins are basically sitting on a guy that may never become the franchise QB. We saw this play out when Tua was pulled for Fitzpatrick.

Unfortunately, or fortunate if you disagree with me, Fitzpatrick is likely to re-sign for at least another year. At the very least it wouldn’t surprise me.
