Miami Dolphins address key needs in end of season 6-round mock draft
By Pablo Rosero
Phillips stays in Miami to give the Dolphins much needed pass rush help.
Round 2 Pick 50
Miami (FL) EDGE Jaelan Phillips
Not that long ago Phillips was heralded as the top overall recruit in the 2017 class, but soon injuries would derail what looked like a promising NFL career. However, a transfer from UCLA to the University of Miami allowed Phillips to grow and prosper into a top flight draft prospect.
So why not keep him in Miami?
Against the Bills, the one play that will stay in my mind is seeing Shaq Lawson with his knee on the ground and Jerome Baker getting juked out by Josh Allen. Watching that play made me realize that we need much better and agile pass rushers. Bring in Phillips and watch him work.
Phillips comes in with a lean frame, but does not substitute power for speed. He is able to get to the quarterback and make a difference. At his size, he should also be able to drop into coverage with ease.
The Dolphins are in need of improving the pass rush, as the team’s secondary did their job for the majority of the season. The key to being an elite defense is having an elite pass rush that can make your team’s secondary look even better.
Thanks to Xavien Howard and Byron Jones, the team’s pass rush is given even more time to make plays. They must add players who will actually get home and not worry about getting juked out of a sack.
