The Miami Dolphins need to get better in their running game but FA may not be the right option.

Myles Gaskin is going to be around for another year or two and Salvon Ahmed has given the Dolphins a serviceable back-up but beyond the two of them, there really isn’t much to rely on. The trade for Matt Breida did not work out any better than the trade for DeAndre Washington. Miami has to do better.

Most fans are hoping that they hear a name called in the first two rounds of the draft in April but could they go the free agency route? Probably not although some believe one guy will gain interest from the Dolphins brass.

Aaron Jones – The Packers will try to keep Jones but there is no guarantee that they do and it is unlikely they would use a franchise tag on him. Jones is a very good running back without a lot of wear and tear on his legs. He is good as a pass-catcher as well. At 26 years old, he is likely looking at one big contract but I’m not sure Miami wants to pay his price when they can get more production from a rookie.

James Conner – Conner has been impressive for the Steelers after taking over their backfield in 2019. He is a tough runner with good vision but he too is on the other side of 25 and has a lot more wear on his legs than Jones.

Kenyan Drake – Drake isn’t coming back to Miami but it will be interesting to see how many fans think he will.

To be honest, the running back list which also includes Todd Gurley, James White, Carolina’s Mike Davis, and a few others really isn’t going to make the Dolphins better. They need to focus that attention on the draft.
