Phillips fills the Miami Dolphins hole at the EDGE position

Round 2 Pick 50

Miami(FL) EDGE Jaelan Phillips

The Dolphins will need to look into adding another EDGE player in the draft. Phillips would be a solid addition, so the team should keep the former Hurricane in the area.

The Hurricanes had an up and down season, even while winning more games than they lost, they struggled against good teams. Phillips did not have major issues this season and could look at his value going up.

He’s a slim pass rusher who is able to get to the quarterback and is quick and big enough to drop into coverage and cover both tight ends and running backs.

Phillips’ main skill is clearly impacting the quarterback, and in a division that sees Josh Allen and will possibly also see Justin Fields twice a year, the team must add pass rusher who are fast and are able to contain and attack.

Taking an EDGE in the draft and adding him to a rotation already including Emmanuel Ogbah and Shaq Lawson is much needed, and Phillips can even drop into the Kyle Van Noy role if he gets hurt.

Getting faster on both offense and defense is essential with the talent forming in the AFC East, and Phillips fills that role quite nicely.
