Passing on Smith at 3 leads to Miami Dolphins taking Waddle at 18

Round 1 Pick 18

Alabama WR Jaylen Waddle

Do I think Waddle will last this long? No, I think he will be gone by the time the Detroit Lions are on the board. But, he was on the board in the simulator and after not taking Smith at three it felt like the right choice to take Waddle at 18.

He is coming off a season where an injured ankle kept him to only three games on the season, but Waddle contains game changing speed and athleticism that can make him an ideal weapon in the Dolphins.

Similar to Smith, Waddle has experience with Tagovailoa at Alabama and would slot in perfectly in an offense featuring Devonta Parker and Preston Williams.

The new age of the NFL has introduced a lot more involvement from speedy wideouts. Now they are asked to do everything instead of going deep. Waddle has the ability to be a playmaker all over the field including special teams and if he is on the board this late in the first, the Dolphins must take a shot at the Alabama playmaker.

It is very obvious that the Dolphins need to give Tagovailoa weapons, and while one is not enough it is a start. It is also clear that the team should focus on drafting multiple wideouts this year.
