Miami Dolphins take Tua Tagovailoa’s old college teammate and current Heisman trophy winner

3rd overall, Miami Dolphins (via Houston Texans)

Pick Analysis. WR. Alabama. DevontaSmith. Scouting Report. 3. player. 829

I have been a huge fan of the Dolphins taking Penei Sewell, and I still think it should be done. However, with where the current roster is prior to free agency it is clear that wideout is the biggest hole on the roster.

If the team trades for Deshaun Watson I doubt they’ll have this pick, but with Tua Tagovailoa currently under center Smith could be the pick.

Smith was by far the best player in college football in 2020 and played for the team that would not only go a perfect 13-and-0 but would also win the National Championship.

According to Smith, it was Tagovailoa who was recruiting him heavily to go to Alabama, and now it seems he really wants him to be in Miami. With the experience the two have after three years together, it is possible that the 2020 Heisman trophy winner would have a much more seamless transition into the NFL.

With that in mind, Smith could become Tagovailoa’s top target in the NFL right away. Smith might not be the clear cut top wideout in this draft, we’ll see who shares the title soon, but the connection between the two former Crimson Tide stars may be too much for the Dolphins to pass on.
