Alabama’s Devonta Smith takes 25.9% of fan votes

Smith was the first wideout in 29 years to win the Heisman after winning it in 2020 by being the absolute best player in the country. It’s not shocking that he closed the gap with Chase as the top wideout and is in the argument for the third overall pick.

As a wideout, Smith proved that he could beat out defensive backs any way necessary. He is able to use his speed, toughness, jumping over the top, and even beating with his route running.

Even while being deemed “underweight” at 175-Lbs, Smith has showcased his ability to be an elite wideout. In Miami, Smith would fill a need.

With his former Alabama quarterback at the helm, Smith already has chemistry with the player that would be giving him the ball. Some of the best teams in the league have multiple wideouts or pass catchers that could be considered the number one guy. Both Smith and Devante Parker would both be considered the top wideouts for the Phins.

However, the 2021 NFL draft is deep at wideout and free agency is equally as deep. The Dolphins could find a way to sign players like Chris Godwin, JuJu Smith-Schuster or even WIll Fuller if they need to. The team could also draft risers like Shi Smith, Anthony Schwartz, Amon-Ra St.Brown later in the draft.

Smith’s case is helped by recency bias, along with his Alabama connection, and the Dolphins need but the team, and fans, see other options that could help the team.
