Miami trades the third overall pick to Carolina who select BYU’s Zach Wilson

The first trade in our mock draft will be the most important for what is to come, it also means three quarterbacks in four picks.

For the Miami Dolphins, trading back to the Panthers eighth overall selection could land the team an additional second rounder this season along with a first rounder next and the ability to land a top wideout in this draft.

The Panthers are firmly attempting to land Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, meaning that they want to upgrade at the spot. Having a bridge quarterback in Teddy Bridgewater could make taking Wilson a smart move if they fail to land Watson.

After a sensational 2020 season, Wilson saw his name shoot up like a rocket. The arm talent, the movement in the pocket, the accuracy are all there on his tape. However, there are questions on his leadership, not being named a captain, as well as playing a weak schedule and only being a starter for one season.

While some see shades of Patrick Mahomes with Wilson, it could be possible that for him it would be best to sit out a year and learn the offense. If the Panthers are also able to hold on to offensive coordinator Joe Brady long term, then this offense could be explosive for years to come.
