He may not have the same name recognition as Najee Harris or Travis Etienne, but Jah-Maine Martin is a good prospect in this upcoming draft.
In college, Martin demonstrated solid vision running between the tackles and showed patience, waiting for blocks to develop before just running into a pile. Martin showed that he has solid speed both when running up the middle of the defense and when coming around the edges.
When watching the tape, one of the more exciting aspects of his game was his ability to shed tacklers with ease. Defenders just seemed to bounce off of him. This, however, needs to be taken with a grain of salt given the talent that he played against. But, if he can channel that in the NFL, that would be an intriguing thing for any NFL team.
With all of the good in his game, there are definitely some issues with him as a player, both on and off field. On the field, Martin is not the biggest contributor in the passing game. Amassing only 7 catches all season is not good enough and he will need to develop into a better weapon out of the backfield in passing plays.
Second, Martin has a bit of a troubled past that may cause teams to avoid him until later in the draft.
Martin started his college career at Coastal Carolina, but because of an arrest he ended up transferring to North Carolina A&T in 2018. These character concerns could definitely cause a drop for the talented running back. If Miami is comfortable with those concerns and feel as though Martin can stay out of trouble, he may turn out to be a great pick later in the draft.
