No Najee Harris?  No problem for the Miami Dolphins!

838. . Running Back. Tar Heels . Javonte Williams. 36. player

Javonte Williams was part of a potent “one-two punch” at North Carolina.  He possesses the kind of physical, ‘sledgehammer’ running style that is greatly coveted in the NFL.  Having only amassed 366 carries in three years at NC, Williams isn’t the type of beaten-up running back that his style usually produces entering the NFL.  His pass-catching skills are debatable but his ability to pass protect makes him an asset on all three downs.

How he fits?

Williams’ style and success at scoring touchdowns (19 TDS in 2020 alone) could make him Miami’s day one goalline/short-yard back.  Put him in the rotation with last year’s pleasant surprises Salvon Ahmed and Miles Gaskin and the Dolphins have an overall improved running game that should get better with the offensive line having another year under their belt.

Carlos Basham Jr. 50. player. 889. . Edge. Demon Deacons

Fans that are looking for the next Cameron Wake or Jason Taylor will be disappointed in this selection.  Then again, Miami doesn’t run the same type of defense that those two players flourished in.  Basham is good at setting the edge, consistently gives great effort, and possesses great football intelligence.

Basham’s floor is as a defensive end in Flores’ 3-4 defense, stopping the run, and be moved around on third downs to rush the passer.  If the Dolphins coaches can improve his pass-rushing arsenal, Basham could potentially have 1-2 seasons of double-digit sacks.
