The Miami Dolphins brought one of their own back today announcing that Elandon Roberts has been re-signed after a brief test of the FA waters.

Roberts is a solid ballplayer with good instincts, especially against the run. He is able to read the play quickly and make plays. His return adds competition and depth to a linebacker group that is getting better.

Last year he played in 13 games and started 11. He spent his previous four seasons in New England. Miami got consistent production from him last year. He totaled 61 tackles, eight for losses, four hits on the QB, and 1.5 sacks.

Miami has been retooling their defense this off-season but not by bringing in big names. Aside from a trade that brought Bernardrick McKinney to Miami, the Dolphins added Brennan Scarlett formerly on the Rams roster and they also brought back Vince Biegel who was playing well until a training camp injury ended his 2020 season.

Another addition, Duke Riley who was with the Eagles also were added on a one-year deal. Riley is solid on special teams where he was a captain and is better in coverage. He should provide the Dolphins depth and situational play.

Miami has paid attention to both the inside and the outside backer positions. It does not preclude them from drafting one in April but it would be surprising if they used a first-round pick on a linebacker at this point.

The Dolphins are making small moves and not the big moves that many had initially anticipated but that is a good thing for a change.
