Miami selects Clemson RB Travis Etienne with the 35th overall pick

The former Clemson running back has projections going from late in the first round to the middle of the second round. In this mock draft, he falls to the Dolphins at pick 35 and is too good of an option to pass upon.

Etienne handled the full workload during his final three seasons at Clemson and has not disappointed. In his last three years, the 5-foot-10 running back from Louisiana has accounted for over 1,500 total scrimmage yards and 16 touchdowns. This includes back-to-back seasons of 2,000+ scrimmage yards and 20+ touchdowns from 2018-2019.

The expectation was Etienne would enter the 2020 draft and be the top running back on the board, instead, he chose to return to Clemson and may have fallen a bit. However, Etienne is a skilled all-around back that fits in the modern NFL and has proven he can handle the lion’s share of carries.

Fortunately for him and for the Dolphins, the team still has Myles Gaskin on the roster and will be able to not only ease Etienne into a large number of carries, but also have a two-headed monster in the backfield.

It is a huge benefit that the Dolphins can still add a top running back in the second round and fill another position of need in the first. However, Etienne should be considered the future for the Dolphins at the position if that is how it shakes out.
