The Miami Dolphins made two huge trades today and they did so without losing a single player off their draft board. It is a huge win for Chris Grier.

Entering the 2021 NFL Draft season, the Dolphins were expected to pursue one of the top three receivers, a left tackle, a linebacker, or possibly a tight end. Now, after two huge deals moved the Dolphins initially to 12 and then back to six, Miami can still count on those players being available to them.

The top players mocked to the Dolphins are Penei Sewell, Ja’Marr Chase, DeVonta Smith, Jaylen Waddle, Kyle Pitts, and at times Michah Parsons. The move to six doesn’t change that and I will show you why.

Trevor Lawrence is the top player in the draft and will go one overall to Jacksonville. The Jets, well honestly, everyone expects a QB but they could go with any other player that may have been a target for Miami. San Francisco is now at three and that has to be a QB. You don’t trade two first-round picks for a big move up to draft a tackle.

At four, the Falcons are expected to draft a QB as well. Some believed that Miami would trade back one spot so Atlanta could get their future replacement for Matt Ryan. At five, the Bengals are likely going to draft either Penei Sewell or Ja’Marr Chase and reunite him with his college QB, Joe Burrow. That puts Miami at six where Waddle, Pitts, Parsons, Smith, and possibly either Chase or Sewell in their laps. The same exact players Miami has been linked to at three.

But Miami gains another first and third-round pick to draft the same guy they likely would have at three. It’s a win-win situation.
