Miami Dolphins may not get a chance at Chase or Pitts
By Brian Miller
On Wednesday, both Ja’Marr Chase and Kyle Pitts held pro day workouts and the Miami Dolphins may now find them out of reach at six.
A little more than a week ago the Miami Dolphins were sitting in a great spot at three overall in this month’s draft. Now, they are at six after making two trades. Two players the Dolphins have reportedly been high on, Chase and Pitts may have done enough to come off the board before Miami picks.
To be fair, we honestly don’t know what the Dolphins’ draft plans are or even if Chase and Pitts are on their board. The Dolphins don’t talk and anyone saying they know or have heard what Miami is planning, yeah well, they don’t know.
What we do know is that the Dolphins sit at six, for now, and that Chase and Pitts had very good workouts. Both players showed their speed, honestly, I have never put much stock in 40-yard times and won’t until they start running them in pads as they will in a game.
Each player performed exceptionally well and as a result, some are wondering how the draft may change as a result. Miami only has serious competition at 4 and 5 where Atlanta and Cincinnati will be selecting.
Chase is a popular player being mocked to the Bengals at five overall and that makes sense given the connection of Chase to Joe Burrow but at the same time, the Bengals lost their starting QB because the offensive line is a mess and this has made others believe that Penei Sewell could be their more logical target. That would bode well for Miami if they are targeting either Chase or Pitts.
At four, the Falcons could be a landing spot for Pitts. The Falcons have other needs and there has been no talk of them trading out of the pick which has led many to believe they are looking at drafting a quarterback. If they do not, Pitts makes the most sense.
Atlanta won’t be drafting a receiver this early and defensive players are not rated this high so that leaves Pitts, Sewell, or a quarterback. After the day that Pitts had on Wednesday, he could be off the board at four and if he does get drafted, he will be the highest-drafted tight end in NFL history. Mike Ditka was drafted fifth overall.
