Pick 81, G Quinn Meinerz, Wisconsin-Whitewater

With their third-round pick, I think it’s best to finalize, what I have considered, a two-year rebuild of the trenches in South Florida. The Dolphins already took a center in the second round, and now to find him another running mate on the inside of the line.

Coming from a small school like Wisconsin-Whitewater could be a detriment for Meinerz, but his elite play in college and his powerful showing at the Senior Bowl proved he is more than capable of keeping up with the best of the best.

Guard might not be an immediate need for this team, but if the team decided to move on from Ereck Flowers at the end of this season, Miami could find already have a top-quality prospect waiting in the wings. Flowers was decent last season, but he will cost more than a rookie will and Miami could look at Flowers as a chance to cut some cap next offseason.

There are a few question marks about Meinerz like his small-school pedigree, and whether he has the athletic ability to compete with NFL talent. I think a lot of these question marks are not going to be huge issues in the NFL and I can see him becoming a quality starter in the interior of anyone’s line.
