The Miami Dolphins could land Micah Parsons at 18

The Miami Dolphins need defensive help in this year’s draft and while we tend to focus on pick number six, could they go defense at 18?

Micah Parsons is believed to be the top defensive front player in this year’s draft and many believe he will not fall all the way down to 18 but he might and if he did, would the Dolphins jump at the shot to grab him? That’s a question for Chris Grier but here is how he could fall to Miami.

We know that Trevor Lawerence will go first and we know that Kyle Wilson and Justin Fields won’t be but a pick or two behind them. We also know that Penei Sewell, Ja’Marr Chase, Kyle Pitts, and DeVonta Smith should all be gone in the top picks as well. Add in the chatter about Mac Jones in play at three to the 49ers and we now have eight picks off the board and the Dolphins ten picks away.

There are four cornerbacks that should be off the board by 18 including Patrick Surtain II. Dallas, Philadelphia, and Carolina could all go CB early. If four come off the board, that leaves six picks until the Dolphins select. We can assume that Jaylen Waddle will probably be gone by 18 as well and two offensive tackles are likely off the board by then as well. That puts Parsons still on the board with three picks left.

The two teams I believe could draft Parsons before Miami are New England and Las Vegas. Bill Belichick covets linebackers who can also play off the edge and the Raiders are always looking for linebackers as well.

Still, the Dolphins are in a good position to take Parsons if he falls and have the firepower to trade back into round one and grab a running back or another offensive weapon if they desire. For now, Parsons looks like a real option for the Dolphins at 18.
