Ja’Marr Chase is not a bad consolation prize for Miami Dolphins

The NFL Draft is a funny business and the Miami Dolphins seem to always be at the center of the craziness, take Ja’Marr Chase for example.

Since the end of the 2020 NFL season, the Miami Dolphins were all in for DeVanta Smith at three overall. Then things shifted to Oregon’s Penei Sewell. A few weeks later and Chase was the top prospect for Miami at three.

Somewhere along this line and somewhere between picks three, twelve, and six, Ja’Marr Chase has become that consolation prize to Kyle Pitts. In fact, many believe that Miami won’t even get that lucky.

Miami was the center of the top 10 universe only a short month ago but that now belongs to the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons could draft Pitts, the Bengals would then take Chase, and the Dolphins would be back to deciding between Sewell and Smith. Two players fans originally wanted at three but will not be thrilled with at six.

As this entire process has played out, Chase who should be the top pick for the Dolphins is the guy that the Dolphins should draft if they can’t draft Pitts. He is the Dolphins bridesmaid this year and that is funny considering how at three, he was everything the Dolphins needed.

The sad part is that he still may not be there at six. The Bengals, according to most in the media, have shifted from needing protection for Joe Burrow to drafting his former receiver at LSU. That is of course if Pitts is off the board.

Chase would be an incredible addition to the Dolphins’ offense if he is there when Miami is on the clock. Miami may very well miss out on Pitts and that’s o.k. but it’s much better if Chase is still available.

Thankfully, there are only two more weeks until all of this mess is over!
