The Miami Dolphins are sitting at six but there are some in the media who believe that they should be talking to the Atlanta Falcons about moving up to four.

At the center of all this is Florida’s tight end, Kyle Pitts. Pitts is a special player and most are saying he is without question the best non-quarterback prospect in this draft. Miami could have had him at 3 but chose to drop to 12. Some thought they moved back to six to make sure they got him, now they may have to get up to four.

Greg Cote of the Miami Herald is the latest to suggest Miami should move up.

The Falcons are widely speculated to be looking to trade the 4th overall pick and it would make sense if a QB needy team wanted to jump up. If Atlanta doesn’t trade out, the pick will be Pitts. If they do trade out, the consensus opinion now has Pitts going to the Bengals at five.

If the Dolphins truly do want Pitts, they may have to move up to four but what might that cost them? For starters, at minimum, a future pick and most likely one of their second-round pick this year.

The point is that it will cost Miami draft picks. Draft picks they gained in the trade with the 49ers, draft capital they already traded to move up to six. All for a player that they could have had at three. That being said, if the Dolphins do make a deal and keep their two firsts this year and two second-round picks this year as well as their 2023 1st from the 49ers they may drop back one and still look pretty good. Again, depending on what they would actually give up to do it.

Regardless, they are better off staying put at six and letting the draft come to them. If they don’t like what is there, they trade back a little further.
