The Miami Dolphins may be the star of Hard Rock Stadium but they are getting another sports sibling to the venue when the Miami Grand Prix arrives.

Starting in 2022, the Miami Grand Prix will begin a 10-year run with the arrival of Formula 1 racing. The street circuit will feature 19 turns that include three of the four sides of Hard Rock Stadium.

While not all of the area is happy with the news, more tourism and money will bleed into the surrounding area with another top sporting event. Already HRS is home to world class professional tennis through the Miami Open and big concerts can fill the stadium as well as world class soccer events.

When the Dolphins and the University of Miami are not playing, the stadium will now have more uses. Miami Dolphins CEO Tom Garfinkel and owner Stephen Ross have been working on adding F1 racing for the least couple of years.

The track will feature a top speed of 198 miles per hour and average speeds around 130 miles per hour. The track will utilize the overflow parking lots as well as the lots used for tailgaiting and the concrete lots. The track will run in front of the tennis venue stands.

“The Hard Rock Stadium entertainment campus in Miami Gardens exists to host the biggest global events to benefit the entire greater Miami region and Formula 1 racing is as big as it gets.” Tom Garfinkel Miami Dolphins CEO

Formula 1 is one of the most popular international sports and now will have at least a 10 year run in South Florida.
