After delivering some remarks on yesterday’s verdict in the George Floyd murder trial, Chris Grier, in his pre-draft press conference, provided a few snippets of insight into some of the major decisions made by the organization in the last few weeks.

Whether the questions focused on Miami’s lack of major free agent signing or the team’s decisions to move up and down the draft board in round 1, Chris Grier consistently demonstrated confidence in Miami’s decision making and proved that he was comfortable with where the Dolphins stood once all the dust settled.

When it comes to the draft, no team has been more mobile than the Dolphins.

Over the last few weeks, the Dolphins moved from the third overall pick in the draft to the 12th and then back again into the top 10. Grier made it clear that the Dolphins “felt comfortable” with their original pick, but made the move at the best interest of this team.

To me, this proves a lot of speculation about the Dolphins big board. They, too, recognize the inevitable run on quarterbacks and saw the opportunity to acquire more draft assets without losing out on one of the top players in the draft.

Chris Grier didn’t give any indication of who was at the top of their board, but he is confident there will be a player they like at 6.

"“I think you said it right there. I think we’ll always listen to everything. We’ve shown that. I think you owe it to your team and your organization to always listen to any offers that may or may not come. At the end of the day, as the draft falls and gets towards our pick, if someone wants to call and they make an aggressive pitch to us, we’ll evaluate it, look at the board and look at our options and we’ll make the decision that’s best for the Miami Dolphins at that point.”"

Whether that player ends up being Kyle Pitts, Ja’Marr Chase or DaVonta Smith is irrelevant. What matters, at least to Grier, is that they still have the chance to take a player they like at 6, if the end up staying at that spot.

Grier didn’t necessarily give any insight into who they were targeting at 6 but made it clear that the team is going to do what it needs to do and are prepared to make selections that are best for the team and to help develop Tua Tagovailoa in his second season.

Grier also indicated that measurables (height, weight, strength, etc.) shouldn’t overshadow what a player can do on the field. This isn’t too much of a draft nugget, but it shows that Miami might not hesitate to make a selection if they think the player on the top of their list happens to be smaller than another guy (cough, cough DaVonta Smith).

Overall, Grier didn’t give any real indication about the Dolphins plans over the next week and a half. One thing is for certain, however. Grier is ready to do what is best for the team and that might mean that the Dolphins firework show is far from over.
