For fans that are upset that the Dolphins didn’t address their running game woes with Harris, the team makes it up to you in round two by drafting the ‘missing piece’ to their revamped offensive line and finally draft their featured running back.

Round 2, Pick 36:  Creed Humphrey, Center, Oklahoma

Centers are often seen as deserving of first-round consideration and Alabama prospect Landon Dickerson being considered the top one in the draft.  These two things lend themselves to the Dolphins getting a gift in selecting Creed Humphrey with the 36th pick in the draft.

I admit that Dickerson is more athletic and possibly the better overall prospect but his lengthy injury history should scare Miami; especially after the issues they went through with Mike Pouncey a few years ago.

Humphrey, on the other hand, is a mauler in the run game and far from the “dancing bear” type of lineman that Dickerson is.  If the Dolphins are looking for a player that can get out and pull then they have the wrong guy here.  But if they want a center with a ton of experience, who’s effective in both the run game and protecting Tua, and comes with zero injury concerns entering the NFL they will select the Sooner with 36 straight starts.  It’s highly possible that free agent pickup Matt Skura won’t even see the field in 2021.

Round 2, Pick 50:  Javonte Williams, RB, North Carolina

The Dolphins are looking for a back that’s decisive at the line, who can make people miss on the second level, and can pass bock/catch on third down…check, check, check!  Javonte Williams averaged over seven yards-per-carry, averaged 12 yards per reception, and scored a total of 22 touchdowns last year.

Alabama running back Najee Harris is more popular, and uber-productive when it comes to touchdowns, back entering the draft but Williams put up his numbers without the benefit of five star prospects along the line and at the other skill positions.  The best part?  Having shared touches with Michael Carter, Williams has less tread on his tires than Harris.

Williams would enter training camp as the clear ‘number one back’ but has shown that he can still be productive if the Dolphins want to give carries to Salvon Ahmed and Myles Gaskin.
