The Miami Dolphins got on the clock and drafted a safety with the 36th overall pick. One pick after the Broncos took Javonte Williams.

So who is this new safety that the Dolphins have drafted? Well, Jevon Holland is a junior out of Oregon. Many Dolphins fans scrambled once the pick was announced and there was a collective “who?” released from Dolphins fans in attendance.

Holland was projected to be drafted in the 2nd round by most analysts. He is quick and has good vision and is capable of playing slot, nickel, safety, and can move up as a hybrid linebacker. In 2020, Holland opted out.

Holland is good in run support and doesn’t shy from hitting but instead looks for it as many scouting reports have indicated. NFL.com analysts like his vision and point that he has good ball skills after playing wide receiver in high school.

He has a lot to prove and NFL.com gives him a 6.2 grade which puts him at a boom or bust level. The question is where will the Dolphins play him or use him? Miami really wasn’t in a position to need a safety or corner. Last year they drafted Noah Igbinoghene in the first round with their third selection.

Maybe the Dolphins view him as an eventual replacement for either Eric Rowe or Bobby McCain. The Dolphins could also use him like they had envisioned Minkah Fitzpatrick. Of course, that is what many believe Igbinoghene’s role to be.

The Dolphins will next pick at number 50 and again at 81.
