The Miami Dolphins have made a big move to get a guy to play tackle, taking Notre Dame’s Liam Eichenberg at pick number 42.

The Dolphins may have left some fans, me, scratching their heads about Jevon Holland at pick 36 but Chris Grier wasn’t going to sit and watch a guy he is obviously high on, go in front of him again. Miami traded their 50th overall pick, their next pick in round two and the 3rd round pick in 2022 to move eight spots.

A three-year starter at Notre Dame, Eichenberg was considered a late first-round early second-round talent. He played left tackle for the Fighting Irish and will now compete with last year’s first-round pick Austin Jackson or will slide to the right side where Robert Hunt can slide inside to guard.

The addition of Eichenberg adds another body to the Dolphins offensive line unit and that is going to make for some tough cuts later this year.

Eichenberg is considered one of the most well-rounded tackles in this year’s draft class according to some scouts. He is very good in pass protection and excellent in run blocking as well. The Dolphins may have gotten a steal with this pick but still, will they get a center or is Eichenberg the offensive lineman that the Dolphins will add this year?

Miami’s next pick won’t happen until round three provided they don’t find a way to move back up into round two. They still have plenty of needs but this pick makes a lot of sense for a team trying to build their trench on offense.
