For the NFL Draft junkies, here is a Miami Dolphins Day 3 2021 Mock Draft. Day 2 of the 2021 NFL Draft had mixed reviews from Dolphins fans. Miami first started with former Oregon defensive back Jevon Holland. The former Oregon Duck was announced as a safety, and head coach Brian Flores gave him a glowing review as a safety in his press conference.

Miami then traded up for former Notre Dame offensive tackle Liam Eichenberg. Drafting Eichenberg was a great move by Miami, as he will start at right tackle and protect Tua Tagovailoa’s blindside.

The pick that really irked Dolphins fans was former Boston College tight end Hunter Long. I tried to explain to fans that Miami would draft a tight end in the first three rounds, and that’s what they did. Long will be an excellent No. 2 tight end, with No. 1 tight end potential.

Miami still has some holes to fill on Day 3 of the 2021 NFL Draft, so here the Day 3 mock draft for the Dolphins. I do expect Miami to trade a player or even two today so they can acquire some more picks, as they only have a 5th round pick and two 7th round picks.

Round 5, Pick 156: Michael Carter, RB, UNC

Dolphins Twitter is in a bad place after the Denver Broncos traded up to pick 35, one pick ahead of Miami to select UNC running back Javonte Williams. It was yet another blunder for general manager Chris Grier when it comes to the running back position.

However, it seems that some running backs will continue to drop, and that is why Miami gets Williams’ teammate at UNC, running back Michael Carter.

Carter is not going to be a bell-cow in the NFL, but he will certainly plug in nicely with a team that wants to do a running back by committee approach, like Miami. Miami coached Carter at the Senior Bowl too, so they may feel even better about taking him if he slides to pick 156.

Round 7, Pick 231: Dylan Moses, LB, Alabama

It seems that former Alabama linebacker Dylan Moses is going to keep dropping in the 2021 NFL Draft. Moses was a highly recruited high school player and ended up going to Alabama. Moses has a ton of skill, but his injury history could be what is scaring teams away.

Moses also had some plays to forget on film in 2020, so if he keeps sliding and is there in the seventh round, Miami should get him. He will need to get a little stronger in the NFL, but I think he’d be a perfect fit in Brian Flores’ defense and could become a formidable starter in the NFL because of that.

Round 7, Pick 244: Brett Heggie, Center, Florida

Dolphins Twitter was upset about the running back position, but I was most upset about the swing and miss at center. If Miami thought Quinn Meinerz was going to drop out of the third round, they are crazy. All of the top center prospects are gone in the 2021 NFL Draft, so Miami needs to try and find a Jason Kelce type diamond in the rough.

Former Florida Gators offensive lineman Brett Heggie would be a great fit for what Miami likes to do. He’s played guard at Florida and finished his career as a center. Heggie isn’t an elite offensive lineman, but he does his job well. Miami would be able to let Heggie sit a year behind Matt Skura and then potentially take over in 2022.
