The Miami Dolphins didn’t draft a running back for six rounds but on Saturday evening, with the draft winding down, they finally added a ball carrier.

Miami Dolphins fans waited on pins and needles, not so much for the final pick but for the guy who was going to deliver it. Our favorite social media personality, Ian “Big E” Berger took the stage in Cleveland to conclude the Dolphins draft.

As “E” got the Dolphins faithful ready, he announced the position that so many fans had waited for! “The Miami Dolphins select, Gerrid Doaks, running back, Cincinnati”.

Doaks is a very good athlete who could bring some power to the Dolphins’ running game. He fell to round seven due to a previous hand injury but when he is healthy, he can play with a lot of strength. He doesn’t possess breakaway speed and will get chased down when he gets in the open but Miami didn’t draft him for that kind of work. This is the guy who will try and win a job by gaining the short-yardage stuff.

Doaks has a lot to prove that he can make the Dolphins roster but he took to Twitter after his name was called and said “All I need is a chance!”

Miami will have competition at running back this year but there will also be some releases that could surprise. Miami will enter the next phase of the off-season with Myles Gaskin, Salvon Ahmed, Malcolm Brown, Patrick Laird, Jordan Scarlett, RB/WR utility man Malcolm Perry and now Doaks.

While his workload will likely consist of the shorter yardage needs, Doaks is a capable receiver out of the backfield and can make defenders miss or wish they had as he can turn his body to shed contact and give it.

Overall, Doaks will get a shot to prove he belongs and could be a practice squad member if he doesn’t make the roster. Either way, the Dolphins got a running back everyone had been hoping for, maybe just not the ones they expected.
