Gerrid Doaks almost didn’t get drafted but the Miami Dolphins finally dipped into the RB pool late on Saturday’s day three wrap up.

Doaks joins a Dolphins unit that typically carries four or five backs at most and is already staffed with Myles Gaskin, Malcolm Brown, Salvon Ahmed, and a combination of Patrick Laird and Malcolm Perry. Now, Doaks has to try and win that final roster spot.

Doaks was drafted with the Ian Berger pick in round seven, those of you on social media will get that reference, for those who are not, you can view the draft pick being announced in the players below.

Doaks is a solid running back with good hands, and now he is a Miami Dolphins. He spoke with the media following the draft. Quotes courtesy of the Miami Dolphins via their media released transcripts.

(I was watching some of your clips and it looked like you bring the wood when you hit. Is that your favorite thing to do, to run somebody over and lay a hit on somebody?)

"“I mean yeah, I’ve got the size. Why not wear down the defense? I’m just here to run hard and just give it my all.”"

Miami has finesse backs but they need a bruising back that can get those tough yards on third down and short, or that first down in the 4th to extend a drive in a close game. Doaks may or may not develop into that guy but at least he recognizes that wearing the defense down is important.

Doaks also talked about his role in Miami and that at Cincinnati and how they trained to be ready.

"“In Cincy, we were just training to be ready in every aspect – run the ball, got to be able to protect the quarterback. Those are things that make big plays, so I’m just happy to transfer those over to the NFL and just make the Dolphins a better team.”"

Doaks said that he is very happy to be a Miami Dolphins player. He knows there is work to do but he is grateful for the opportunity. He has to work hard this off-season to impress and escaped going undrafted. Overall, Doaks could make an impact on Miami’s roster but he will have to take advantage of every opportunity that is given to him.
