The Miami Dolphins quietly hosted safety and free agent Malik Hooker today and he has had a bit of fun with fans on Twitter since his visit.

Nothing is being reported out of Miami that a deal is done or will be done or anything else but Hooker, after finding out that his trip to Miami was outed, took to Twitter to have some fun.

Miami fans jumped in full-go asking him if were going to sign, asking him to sign, and of course, imagining what his addition might mean to the Dolphins defense. Hooker took notice of one of those Tweets.

Hooker is a free safety who finished his 4th season of the NFL last year. He is currently a free agent. In his four-year career, he has started 35 of 36 games he has appeared in. He has seven interceptions, 11 passes defended, and 124 tackles.

If the Dolphins do sign him, I would venture to guess that deal would be for one or two years which really seems in line with what the Dolphins have been doing with veterans this late after free agency.

Hooker is a good football player and still has room to get better but the question is where would he fit on the Dolphins’ already stacked secondary? The Dolphins would have to try and unload Bobby McCain or Eric Rowe. Both have played free safety with Rowe playing it last year and McCain the year before.

Miami also has Brandon Jones and this year 2nd round pick Jevon Holland. Holland will likely be a utility player on the Dolphins defense.

If the Dolphins do sign Hooker they will have to clear more cap space. Miami currently has $8 million in cap space to spend on signing its rookie class and needs about $12 million. Fans are expecting big moves in the near future. Signing Hooker will eat into that $8 million but if they are gearing up to trade or release one of their starters at safety, getting a look at Hooker makes a lot of sense.
