Miami Dolphins: 7 rookie class predictions for the 2021 season
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins had one of the best drafts according to most NFL Draft analysts but on-paper doesn’t mean more wins or a post-season.
With the NFL season still a few months away and the off-season workouts, both voluntary and mandatory coming over the next two months, the focus on the Dolphins draft class will turn from the “on-paper” expectations to the actual on-field expectations.
The Dolphins drafted four players that could start and should start in 2021. They also drafted depth at tight end, an offensive lineman to add depth and competition, and a running back that they are hoping can make an impact on the roster.
With a total of seven players drafted this we dive into what each player could bring to the team and through that, we look to predict what each player could do in 2021.
We start with Larnel Coleman and Gerrid Doaks. Both of Miami’s 7th round selections will have a strong chance to make the final 53 man roster. I would predict that Doaks has a better shot given the fact he is playing in a unit that doesn’t have as much competition.
Coleman has a lot of strong attributes but he may end up on the team’s practice squad this year, at least to start the season. The Dolphins have quality starters and some decent depth and competition is going to be fierce for the final one or two spots on the offensive line.
Prediction: Doaks will see considerable playing time over Salvon Ahmed by mid-season and Coleman will compete against Robert Jones, the undrafted free agent lineman Miami signed. I think Jones could win this competition.
