The Miami Dolphins may have their bookend edge rusher now with Jaelan Phillips opposite Emmanuel Ogbah but adding another may be an option.

At this point in the off-season, finding contributors is as important as finding starters was back in March when free agency started. The Dolphins need to supplement their roster and finding a veteran that can come in and compete for a roster spot is a win-win for the Dolphins.

At the edge position, Melvin Ingram is still on the market. He played well in 2020 but over his career, he has been up and down in terms of his play. While he has been more consistent the past couple of seasons, Ingram isn’t the player that his draft status projected him to be.

Ingram is primed for a one-year deal that won’t be tough for a team like Miami to swallow. He would provide veteran depth at the position and could be a situational starter. Ingram’s 2020 contract was fully guaranteed by the Chargers but they had no intention on giving him the kind of deal they gave Joey Bosa.

Still, Ingram would be a decent addition to the Dolphins roster and provide some mentoring value to Phillips. He would likely sign a one-year deal with incentives. Ingram is only one season removed from three consecutive Pro Bowls. Working against him, however, is his age. At 32, Miami may not be interested at all.
