Preston Williams is expected to make the roster this year but his entire career thus far has been more about the injuries that have derailed him.

Williams looked so good early in his 2019 campaign. He started 7 games for the Dolphins and had 32 receptions for 428 yards and three touchdowns. In November of his rookie season, he landed on IR.

Back to health in 2020, Williams once again looked good in training camp and didn’t appear to have any ill effects from his injury the previous season. He started another seven games but his production was a lot lower than the year before. He caught 18 passes for 288 yards but got into the endzone 4 times.

Still, it was the injury bug that hit again and once again, in early November, Williams is done for the year.

Now we are in 2021 and the Dolphins wide receiver group is a lot deeper than it was the last two years. There is no guarantee that Williams can make the roster but as I stated above, he is expected to. What he needs to prove now is that he can stay healthy.

Williams will be a restricted free agent in 2022 and that means the Dolphins can keep him with a qualifying offer or release him. If he can’t stay healthy this year, he may not be back next season.
