Michael Dieter didn’t really have many expectations on his shoulders when he arrived via the 3rd round of the 2019 draft.

Dieter played quite a bit during his rookie season with mixed results. In 2020, he didn’t start a single game after starting all but one the year before. While he is still under contract for the 2022 season, it is imperative that he shows the coaching staff what he can do and where he fits into the Dolphins’ future.

Truth be told, Dieter may not get the 2021 season to prove he belongs in Miami, he may not make it to September without an improved training camp. The Dolphins are deep along the offensive line but one thing that bodes well for him is that he has been taking reps at center. If he can get up to speed there he could be an answer for Miami in the long term but right now, he doesn’t appear to be heading back to challenge for a starting job at guard.

The Dolphins invested a 2nd round pick in Liam Eichenberger this past April and he may be moved inside to play guard.
