Many Miami Dolphins fans don’t want Julio Jones and many Miami Dolphins fans do but the current price should steer the Dolphins out of the picture.

Whether you are pro-Jone or against him coming to Miami most of us could honestly agree that a first-round draft pick is too much to pay for a player at a position that Miami is deep at. A report on ESPN yesterday said that the Falcons have an offer on the table for Jones and it includes a first-round pick. Now, as far as we know, it could be complete BS and nothing more than a potential swap of first-round picks or a late first from a team with multiple selections.

What we also know is that the Dolphins do not need Julio Jones that much. Would he make the Dolphins’ offense better? Absolutely. He has out-performed every other Dolphins receiver on the roster consistently. Not just consistently over the last 10-12 years, but even over the last 3 years when many are saying he is declining. Last year, Jones missed all but 9 games and still had more receiving yards than DeVante Parker who led the team in yards.

We have made this argument before and our own Jeremy Klump has as well but if the report from ESPN is accurate, a first-round pick is too much to pay for a guy who has been in the league for 10 years now. A 2nd round pick? Maybe depending on what else is thrown in with Jones. A 3rd round pick? Maybe depending on what Miami also throws in.

Several teams are in a bad salary cap position and will not make a run at Jones but the Dolphins could make room if they wanted him. Yet for all the talk of it being possible, until the draft compensation comes down, more than just a little, the Dolphins should take a hard pass.

Personally, I think Jones is a player that would open the offense unlike any other on the roster and I also think that Jaylen Waddle would benefit from him being here as well. I like DeVante Parker but he isn’t as aggressive or consistent as I would like. Jones is. Yet, I still can’t get over the cost of the sale and for that, I’m out.
