Dan Marino wants you to know that he is 100% against Bill Belichick breaking the late Don Shula’s all-time winning record. That is all.

Marino was speaking with ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe when he was asked about his former coaches winning record being in potential jeopardy from the hated rival Patriots.

"“I hope he don’t get it,” Marino said emphatically. “I’m a Dolphin for life. Coach Shula for life. I don’t want him to get it.”"

Of course, why would Marino say anything but what he said? He, as he told Wolfe, is a Dolphin for life. What he didn’t say was anything regarding the cheating incidents that helped the Patriots head coach win so many games.

Belichick is 48 wins away from Shula’s record. If the Patriots can win 12 games a year for the next four seasons, he will reach and take over the record. With one more game on the schedule now, his timeframe to catch Shula has shrunk a little bit.

The question is will Belichick continue to coach that far into his 70s? Belichick is 69 years old and years ago said he wouldn’t coach into his 70s but recently told, I believe it was Peter King that he didn’t think he would feel how he does now. King said he didn’t feel that Belichick would hang around to catch the record but Belichick would do exactly that if he can get closer.

The Patriots are transitioning with a new system on offense and inevitably a switch to rookie Mac Jones. For Marino, what he said makes complete sense but many fans still don’t think that the history Belichick has had should be worthy of such an honor.
