If Xavien Howard doesn’t want to be with the Miami Dolphins he should just say so, but he should want to see Gesicki and Ogbah taken care of first.

After Gesicki and Ogbah, there isn’t any critical talent left on the roster that needs to have a deal done now. One that can’t wait until after the season. This is where Howard should be slotted in the overall scheme of the Dolphins’ priorities and he should 100% understand that.

If Howard wants to win, then maintaining talent should be important to him as well. History has shown that the Dolphins under Grier and Flores have his interests in mind and that he is a priority but he should also see the darker side of doing a new deal two years into his current one and realize the precedent that it would set.

If Howard doesn’t care about any of that and only cares about his own contract then the Dolphins need to realize that winning isn’t as important as money is to Howard. If that is the case then either trade him or force his hand in the situation.

Regardless, Howard should get more money, more likely in the form of guaranteeing some of his non-guaranteed portions of the next three years on the deal but it should come with knowing that Miami can not allow themselves to be held down by the contract demands of a player that has already been addressed.
