The Miami Dolphins turned over the roster again this off-season but it was a far cry from the 2019 and 2020 seasons that saw far more turnover.

Many Dolphins fans still wonder if the team made a mistake letting Ryan Fitzpatrick leave for Washington. In reality, he would have only served as a distraction for the development of Tua Tagovailoa. Looking at who the Dolphins lost this year, many of those released or not re-signed made sense and there was a reason for them not returning but these three may have still been able to contribute. While I don’t think any of them aside from our first player would have made an impact on the roster, they still could have provided some value.

Ted Karras

Karras wasn’t a great center in Miami last year but he was good enough to handle the job. Miami will rely on Matt Skura this year but he had troubles last season. The Dolphins lost on Karras because they waited to long to sign him. Miami tried to sign David Andrews from the Patriots but the Dolphins didn’t match what the Patriots were offering and Andrews stayed in New England. While the Dolphins flirted with Andrews, Karras opted to return to New England as well. The Dolphins went another direction and that brought Skura. Will Miami regret this move? Maybe.

Kamu Grugier-Hill

Grugier-Hill played only one season with the Dolphins and while he was a starter for only one game, he provided depth and appeared in 15 games. He had one sack and one fumble recovery while adding 28 tackles. 21 of those were solo tackles. Miami didn’t really need Grugier-Hill this year with the return of Vince Biegel but he would have added quality depth to the team especially during camp. He signed a one-year deal with the Texans that could be valued up to $2.5 million with $1 million guaranteed. Miami wasn’t likely going to pay that and I’m not sure KG-H is worth that right now.

Bobby McCain

McCain’s contract with the Dolphins needed to come off the books and Miami saved some money by releasing him. Still, the veteran safety could have helped the younger guys that Miami has added and drafted. Eric Rowe will have that tutorial job now but McCain can still play well. The addition of Jason McCourty will offset the loss of McCain. He signed with Washington on a one-year $1.4 million deal.
