Each off-season there are a handful of players that out-perform expectations at training camp and solidify their role with the team. Usually, no one sees this breakout coming. Today, we’re going to look at three Miami Dolphins players with the potential to surprise the fans, media, and even their coaches.

Recent breakout players

Myles Gaskin has been one of the most surprising breakout stories in recent memory. The Dolphins attempted to address the running back position during the 2020 off-season by signing Jordan Howard and trading for Matt Breida. Most experts and fans alike saw an uphill battle for Gaskin to even make the active roster.

Once camp opened though, it was obvious who the superior player was. By the end of the season, Howard was gone and Breida’s snap share had plummeted. A team will always favor players that they draft highly or pay more in free agency, but Brian Flores is going to play whoever gives them the best chance to win now and in the future. The cream will always rise to the top. Some other recent breakout players include Andrew Van Ginkel and Solomon Kindley.

It is also important to remember that a “breakout,” is relative to each player. Myles Gaskin, a 2019 7th round draft choice, had a breakout season just by getting carries and being productive. For some players, just making the team will surpass expectations. For others, it could mean being one of the best at their respective position.

What follows are three players that have the potential to exceed expectations and make a name for themselves in 2021.
