5 players who are shining so far in Miami Dolphins camp
By Brian Miller
Adam Pankey is not supposed to be anything but a backup offensive lineman but the versatile utility player is making a case for getting first-team reps. The Dolphins are playing situational football with their offensive linemen, meaning it is another round of rotations to see who fits where.
Pankey has looked good on second-team reps and is now getting work in at tackle opposite Austin Jackson. Pankey has played every position but center and with Liam Eichenberg moving inside to guard, the tackle position is open for competition.
A report late last week said the Dolphins may be shopping around for a right tackle but if Pankey can develop and deliver, they may not have to. It would be a great underdog story if Pankey can win the starting job and that isn’t to say that he will but he is making a big case for a roster spot that only a month ago seemed unlikely.
Pankey is going to get plenty of work in on Saturday against a good Bears defensive front and this will give us a chance to see some of the growth that he is showing at practice. While pads have been on in Miami, there is a considerably different approach to practicing against other teams and playing against them.
