The Miami Dolphins have a battle at center where Michael Dieter is trying to win the starting job over Matt Skura who was signed this past off-season on a one-year deal. It looks as though Dieter may have inched forward but that can change pretty quickly.

Dieter had a solid rookie season at guard two years ago but he was barely on the field last year and many thought he would last through this training camp. He shifted to a backup role last year at center and this year, he has embraced the change.

It will be interesting to see how Dieter fares against a tough Chicago defensive front and a good game could give him not only the confidence but the final push to win that job. This week’s joint practices with the Bears have been relatively good with some early setbacks but today we get to see everything with our own eyes.

When Dieter is not on the field, Skura will be and there are reports from media attending Dolphins camp that he has not looked particularly good at times or consistent. At least not early. He needs to have a very solid outing today and the other three games if he has any chance of winning the starting job but neither of the two really have much room for mistakes.
