Miami Dolphins game day: 5 things to watch on offense
By Brian Miller
Chances are we will only see Mike Gesicki for a series or two. When Tua Tagovailo ends his day for the Miami Dolphins, Gesicki likely will as well but there is still a big competition at the tight end position that will play out today.
The Dolphins will likely keep four tight ends at most and we know that Gesicki is one of them. Hunter Long will not play today and provided he is able to return to the team this pre-season, he will make the roster. That leaves two spots up for grabs between Durham Smythe, Cethan Carter, and Adam Shaheen.
The trio will also try to keep Chris Myarick out of the picture. Myarick is a likely practice squad player.
Carter has the experience and Shaheen was given a small extension last year but it is Durham Smythe that could have more value to the club. Smythe is entering the final year of his rookie contract and if he leaves next season, he would fall into the compensation draft pick equation.
It is not likely that Miami retains Smythe beyond this year though and because of that he could be on the outside, the good news for him is he has been pretty good in camp so far. The next three weeks of football games will decide this competition though.
