Eric Rowe: one of the Miami Dolphins most valuable defenders
What to expect in 2021 from Eric Rowe
Rowe is coming into the season with loftier expectations, and that’s a good thing. He may never receive the national attention that he deserves, but we’re used to that with the Dolphins. Regardless, Miami will face a tough slate of tight ends this season, and fans know how important Rowe will be to stopping them.
"Week 1: Hunter Henry & Jonnu Smith (NE) Week 3: Darren Waller (LV) Week 5: Rob Gronkowski & OJ Howard (TB) Week 7: Kyle Pitts (ATL) Week 10: Mark Andrews (BAL) Week 13: Evan Engram & Kyle Rudolph (NYG) Week 18: Hunter Henry & Jonnu Smith"
As the position has evolved to prioritize athleticism and receiving ability, more and more high level receiving tight ends have sprung up in the NFL. It is paramount for any defense to have players who can cover these hybrid players, but also difficult to find those players. An elite tight end has the size of a defensive end, but moves similar to a wide receiver. Rowe is one of those rare players that has the size, length, and athleticism to compete against these freak athletes. It also appears that Rowe is off to a fast start in 2021.
Eric Rowe is one of the most important players on this team. Without him, the defense takes a noticeable step back. I’m telling you this, because he’ll never come out and say it. He won’t get into an ugly contract dispute with the team, he’ll never argue that he’s the best at this position, he’ll always put the team first. Don’t take my word on that though, just ask his mother.
"“He’s never been the superstar of his team. He doesn’t do touchdown dances. He’s just humble. He’s like his father. He likes to assess the situation first before reacting.” -Denise Rowe via Ed Barkowitz @ThePhiladelphiaInquirer"
One thing has changed though. When it comes to doing his job, Rowe is a superstar… even if that is one of Miami’s best-kept secrets.
