Miami Dolphins: 3 wide receivers Dolphins passed on for Josh Rosen
#3. Terry McLaurin
The final player on our list in the only one that didn’t qualify for the Pro Bowl in 2020, but 2021 could absolutely be his year.
Terry McLaurin was not projected to be a first round pick, but he put together a solid-enough senior season at Ohio State to be considered as a mid-round prospect. He had over 700 yards on just 35 catches in his final season, 11 of those resulting in touchdowns. The now-Washington Football Team was the one that was rewarded for their patience on draft night, as McLaurin was available to them with the 12th pick in the 3rd round (76th overall).
The results have been outstanding. After coming just 80 yards shy of 1,000 in his rookie season, McLaurin proved that Year 1 wasn’t a fluke in 2020. While enduring a wildly underwhelming 4+ man quarterback rotation, the second-year wide out amassed 1,118 receiving yards, the 13th highest mark of any player last season. The quarterback position will certainly be more stable this year, as former Dolphin Ryan Fitzpatrick should have command over the starting job for most of the season. McLaurin is widely projected to be a top-15 receiver.
In retrospect, the Dolphins probably wouldn’t have considered McLaurin anyway. His positional ranking made most teams believe that he was not WR1 material, and the second round is a time to select top talents. But would they have picked him in the third round? Miami selected offensive lineman Michael Deiter with the 78th pick, just two slots after McLauren was selected.
