Kirk Merritt did everything that he was supposed to do to make the Miami Dolphins roster but the numbers were not lining up for him.

Miami kept seven receivers which shows the amount of depth they have at the position. It is likely that Merritt will be claimed off waivers sometime today. He has too much talent not to be and he will likely see action in the 2021 season. There are plenty of teams who need receiver help, the Detroit Lions come to mind.

If he clears waivers, the Dolphins definitely add him back onto the roster and could put him on the 53 for the first week of the season with Will Fuller serving a one game suspension.

Merritt earned his roster spot through consistently good practices and exhibition games but again, when the numbers are not there, someone tends to be left off. This year, that player was Merritt.
