Patrick Laird signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent two years ago and his time with the team was coming to an end when this season started. Laird is a very good pass-catching running back but the Dolphins’ offense really hasn’t given him the time to truly shine.

While it is surprising that the Dolphins only carried three running backs into the season, we can expect at least one or two to be added to the practice squad. I’m not sure that Laird will be one of them because I’m not sure he will clear waivers.

Laird has a lot to offer and has a good body of work under his two seasons of play. Not every player that gets cut is going to catch on with another team but Laird could be one of those few that do. If he does manage to clear waivers, he should be added to the practice squad and could see himself added back on the 53 man roster at some point during the season.
