Miami Dolphins can beat the Patriots if they do these five things
By Matt Serniak
If I end up doing this every week, which I hope I do, you might find this key to the game included every week.
I know stopping the run is potentially more important than generating a pass-rush. I understand that. But, with a rookie quarterback, who isn’t very mobile, who doesn’t have an arm where he’s going to take a lot of chances, the Dolphins need to hurry Mac Jones up and force him into situations where everyone in the world knows he’s throwing the ball.
And that right there is the NFL folks. Do you know what separates good quarterbacks from elite quarterbacks? Being able to convert 3rd and 6 and more. Being able to convert on downs where everyone in the stadium and watching at home know you have to throw the ball. Personally, I think Tua can be a dropback passer where he doesn’t need the theatricality and deception of play-action to make big plays. I don’t know if Mac Jones can be that type of passer. I could be wrong, but I think Jones is more of a Baker Mayfield/Ryan Tannehill type of quarterback where he needs a strong running game to generate a passing offense.
This is where the pass rush comes in. There will be times where the Patriots are in 3rd and long. When that happens, the Dolphins need to get home. Preferably, getting to the quarterback with four guys is the best way to go but I really don’t care how the Dolphins do it. They have a lot of money put into the secondary so they need to step up when they’re on an island. That’s part of the deal.
